Different Professionals – One shared concept

Body, brain, and mind cannot function independently
of one another.

We experience all our feelings, actions, and dreams throughout our entire lives through our body. Science has taught us that the chemical and physical laws of our body form the foundation of our emotions, perceptions, and thoughts.
Body, brain, and mind as one unified system
Body, brain, and mind mutually influence one another and shape our experience.
Interaction between body and experience
Posture, breathing, and movement influence emotions and perception. Therefore, treatment often also includes a body-oriented approach.
Holistic Treatment
We integrate physical, psychological, and social factors into a holistic treatment concept.
The same principles apply to sexuality.
How we experience sexuality is largely determined by how we perceive sexual arousal and by the patterns through which we use our body in this process.

Learn more about

In addition to genetic predisposition, learning processes from early childhood onwards shape who we are, how we structure our lives, and the patterns through which we experience health, relationships, and sexuality.

Neuroscientific findings show that the brain remains capable of learning and change throughout life. New neural connections can form not only in adulthood but also into old age. This makes it possible to expand sexual experience as well as to change body perception, postural patterns, muscular tension, and sensory disturbances.

In sex therapy based on the sexological approach Sexocorporel, as well as in psychological counselling, psychotherapy, and couples therapy, different learning processes are specifically encouraged. Learning is understood as a central pathway to health, well-being, and personal development, and is an essential part of the ZiSMed concept.

Conventional medicine is well-suited for treating many ailments. Therefore, at ZiSMed, we work according to the latest findings of scientific medicine. For certain, particularly complex or persistent illnesses, as well as in preventative care, we supplement this with selected complementary therapies.

These therapies consider the unity of body and mind and go beyond simply treating symptoms. In interdisciplinary case discussions, we work together to develop the best possible, individually tailored treatment plan for patients with complex medical conditions.

Recurrent Fungal Infections – A Holistic Perspective

A vaginal fungal infection can usually be treated quickly with antifungal medication. However, if symptoms keep recurring, it is worth exploring possible underlying causes.

Focus on the pelvic floor

Increased tension in the pelvic floor muscles may influence susceptibility to fungal infections. At the same time, symptoms such as urinary tract infections, constipation, or pain during sexual intercourse can be related. Targeted relaxation techniques and body-based therapies can often have a positive impact on these interconnections.

Chronic muscular tension

If other muscle groups are also chronically tense, it may be helpful to include the entire body in treatment. Otherwise, it can be difficult to achieve isolated relaxation of the pelvic floor.

Fungal infections after sexual activity

If symptoms occur mainly after sexual intercourse, learned tension patterns during sexual arousal may play a role. Increased pelvic floor muscle tension can lead to greater mechanical strain on the vagina during intercourse, which may increase susceptibility to fungal infections. Sex therapy can help to modify body awareness and movement patterns during sexual activity.

Individual perspectives

Depending on your personal situation, different diagnostic assessments and treatment approaches may be recommended for recurrent fungal infections.

Function of the Pelvic Floor

The pelvic floor muscles perform essential supportive and stabilising functions in the body. They activate reflexively in various situations, such as coughing, laughing, physical exertion, sexual arousal, or emotional stress. As a result, they are largely governed by automatic patterns, which can, however, be influenced through learning processes. Accordingly, pelvic floor training is used in a targeted way, for example in cases of stress incontinence or postnatal recovery.

Chronic tension and possible effects

Less well known is that many people may develop persistent tension in the pelvic floor. This chronic tension can affect the function of adjacent organs as well as overall well-being. Possible associations have been described, including digestive issues, bladder dysfunction, and chronic pelvic pain.

Impact on sexual well-being

In women, this may also be associated with recurrent infections, sexual dysfunctions, or pain during intercourse. In men, symptoms may include discomfort in the genital area, erectile dysfunction, or premature ejaculation. Reduced blood flow in the pelvic region is also discussed as a possible contributing factor.

Interdisciplinary treatment at ZiSMed

Regulation of the pelvic floor muscles and training of body awareness play a central role. Treatment is provided in an interdisciplinary setting involving gynaecology, sexology, and psychotherapy, and is individually tailored to the patient’s needs.
